I do think that this book is more similar in tone/writing style to Trials of Apollo than it is to the original series. Without the stakes of the original story, and with Percy just doing silly little quests to get his silly little college recommendation letters, it just doesn’t hit as hard. And maybe I’m biased, but I wish we’d gotten a little more Annabeth.
