The Monster in the Hollows by Andrew Peterson

3.0

I keep thinking that this series is going to find its footing, but it just hasn't yet for me. There's a lot of focus on minor inconveniences and misunderstandings facing the main characters, and while that can be a narrative device that adds excitement and keeps the writing fresh, it's instead coming at the expense of the larger overall story, which feels thrown in at the end of this book especially.
On top of that, to be completely honest, I just don't really like the main characters, so my motivation to continue engaging with their story is low, reliant only on wanting to know the whole picture and not on the desire to actually learn more about them.
