Sweet as Pie by Beth Bolden

It is no a secret by now that I am a big fan of [a:Beth Bolden|8137900|Beth Bolden|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1397886875p2/8137900.jpg]'s books and one thing that she does, and that I absolutely love, is to intertwine characters from her different series or, as in this case, bring us Luca, who is Gabe's brother in one of her Food Trucks books and who we think of as the "bad" guy in that story, but like everything in life, each person has their version of how they live it and why.

Here we see that he is just a man dedicated to his family, who out of fear of disappointing them and above all, disappointing his grandmother, who is no longer here but remains a strong presence for him. He learned everything he knows about cooking from her, and she, perhaps without realizing it, was the one who caused him to carry the weight of family and business on his shoulders from a very young age, practically forgetting how to enjoy life, and making him to look cold and uptight on the outside, but lonely and beleaguered on the inside.

But then, on a trip to help his aunt with her restaurant, he meets Oliver. He is almost the opposite of Luca. I mean, he's dedicated to his bakery, has plans to expand it, and hasn't taken a vacation in years. But the difference is that Oliver does it for himself, for his own growth, enjoying the process step by step despite the difficulties that may arise and the fatigue. And despite so much work, he tries to enjoy the little things in life, even if he doesn't have much time to meet someone. He is much more carefree and easy going than Luca, but nevertheless, it is all these differences that make that spark of attraction they feel since day one grow and grow. Oliver wants to show him that there is much more to life than work and obligations, and Luca wants to absorb as much of that happiness that he feels every time he is around Oliver.

Of course, obstacles don't take long to appear, first and foremost, the fact that they both live on opposite sides of the country. And now they must decide what is more important, family, or that love that only comes once in a lifetime.

I was given an advanced copy and wrote voluntarily a review.
