Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey Through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy by Angela Garbes
4.0
I liked this book, good solid read and a fresh perspective on pregnancy, and some intricate details on what it's like to be in labor with complications as well as some common inevitable reverberations on the body, mind, relationships, and the new interactions that arise. It also points out important gross overlooks by some cultural scenarios, common sense, and toxic preconceived notions that are forced upon a pregnant person. It brings up very important topics of conversation that need to be openly discussed a lot more frequently in our society. It is not however instructional nor will it go through trimesters and week-by-week type of information regarding pregnancy, this is more of a hit topic book to raise awareness upon important issues in our society. I particularly liked the chapter that goes through the perspective of pregnant people that are cis, transgender, or identify themselves as non-binary. It's again of fundamental importance to raise awareness and voice different perspectives regarding this pregnancy in its many forms that is presented.
