Snow White by Alice Callisto, Jeanette Rose

4.0

Thank you Jeanette Rose and book Sirens for the free copy to review. I really appreciated the map I had before Chapter One. It made it easier picturing the setting shifts while reading.

Anyways, Snow white is a sapphic retelling of the fairy tale, following the perspectives of protag Snow and Azura. Azura is cold and calculating with an overwhelming dominant personality who wishes to secure the throne for power; while Snow is a youthful, naive princess who wants the best for her family, and follows Azura around like a puppy.

The plot was easy to get into, and i finished this book in one sitting. I really love how Jeanette captures Snow's emotions and mindset through ice imagery. Snow was shattering, melting, and freezing just like her element, and i found it powerful whenever she felt strongly.

On the other hand, I can't believe that Snow and Azura really loved each other at the end. For the first few chapters it felt like infatuation, and then towards the middle of the book it shifted purely to lust. Now i don't mind developments like that, but they can't just instantly be in love with each other the way they claimed to at the end. I hope that in future books the side plots get expanded on more.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
