City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

2.0

Whole chapters that could have been avoided: this is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking back to City of Ashes.
Obviously the story is interesting and I continue to like the setting and the atmosphere, but of plot (boring and predictable) and characters we are in bad shape.
Starting with the fact that if I couldn't stand Clary before, I can stand her even less now, and there is also added annoyance with Jace. He is absolutely stereotyped and his behaviors in reality would often be judged toxic.
As for their “romance”, I can understand the initial confusion after finding out they are siblings, but at the end of the book Clary is still in love with her BROTHER. That they didn't even know each other all their lives and have to twist their relationship… that will be two weeks in all.
The only characters I like are:
1. Alec (my dear love) who if he doesn't start appearing more in the third book I swear I will email the author
2. Luke who is the only character with common sense

I will read City of Glass and then no more of The Mortal Instruments. Later on I will start The Infernal Devices.
