An enjoyable yet repulsive novel about western colonialism and the sex tourism industry; about western hypocrisy and indulgence.
The sex scenes are well-written and erotic, frequent, but not the focal point of the novel.
As always, Houellebecq delivers a fantastic read, and one you constantly have to check yourself while reading because the smooth dialogue about marketing sex tourism is very selling - the book itself is at times an insidious sales pitch - but with a moral breakdown in the end.
It's a brief novel, but worth a read.
