Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler

3.0

As the Time traveller's wife is to time travel, this book is to vampirism! If you want a more thoughtful/realistic/psychological approach to the subject you might enjoy this book more than say Interview with the Vampire, but Butler's Xenogenesis series remains my favorite work of her's. She can so clearly imagine and share the mind of the other that her readers must confront what it would be like to be different from the inside out. The saddest part of this book (not a spoiler) is that Butler's life is closed (June 22, 1947 – February 24, 2006) on the about the author page. I was so sad when I realized she had passed away. I felt like a little potential for growth between people was gone from the world.
