Plastic: A Toxic Love Story by Susan Freinkel

5.0

A riveting read! Freinkel does a wonderful job giving readers a comprehensive historical, cultural, scientific scope of this ubiquitous substance we call plastic. I especially enjoyed how each chapter revolved around a different plastic object: a frisbee, a hair comb. Each object told a story and led into the history of plastic and how it came to shape our lives today. I also found the ending part about the importance of--and difficulty of--behavioural change quite an important addendum to a book about a toxic substance that we really need to reduce in our lives. It is thoroughly enjoyable and it's a nuanced rendering of the role plastic plays in our lives.
