The Boy in the Dress by David Walliams

4.0

Follow your dreams; that's the moral of the story. No matter what... David Walliams' funny and thought-provoking début novel is filled with heart and the characters are three-dimensional. Though the clue is in the title, I'm still reeling from the surprise that Dennis cross-dresses, Walliams daring to go so far in a children's book to campaign against the obvious cruelty and abuse a cross-dresser receives, and a twelve year old boy at that. Walliams' writing is like a ten-year old Roald Dahl novel, needs a bit of tweaking in the writing department, but great nonetheless. His writing improves as his novels become more and more successful. Never abuse the transvestite community.
