Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy

2.0

I was not put on this world to watch a grown man pine over his own fictional woman. If I have to read another word about Tess's lips or innocence or cows then I will invent a time machine just to prevent Thomas Hardy's conception, with no regard for the butterfly effect. The safety of my sanity would merit any negative side effects.
