Spera, Volume 3 by Amai Zhao, Afu Chan, Meg Gandy, Josh Tierney, Cory Godbey, Michael Dialynas, Sam Bosma

5.0

It's been ages since I read the first two volumes so I whipped them out to remind myself what happened before and seriously. Spera will always be worth the cost of buying a hardback despite me hating buying things on hardback.

If in Vol2 we have flashbacks of Pira's past and the Starless Queen, in Vol3 Lono's own kingdom gets a bit fleshed out in Kyle and Nole. More or less the 'antagonists' of the piece, they initially struck me as 'oh okay, two guys out for revenge', and then interaction happened, and I found out later that Lono actually fancied Nole a bit, and just. I really liked Kyle and Nole, okay.

Turn of events (what might actually constitute as a climax if you're not looking to the characters for that) MIGHT be a bit of a letdown, if you're looking for some action. A big turning point of the story happened from someone else's point of view, someone not in the vicinity when it happened, and so we only get back in the action once things calmed down. Not an issue for me, but might be an issue for other people.
