Les muses orphelines by Michel Marc Bouchard

4.0

This was my book for the Reading Circle at my library. Reading plays is different from reading novels. This is one of the important plays by Bouchard. This is a close space with 4 siblings coming to terms with the lies, deception and hurt all of them felt and did to each other when their mother left them some 20 years ago. Set in a rural and isolated region of Quebec in 1965, you get the isolation, the bigotry, the pain but also the love and desperation all the siblings have for one another. The prose is musical, ironic, sarcastic, funny.
