I was a bit nervous to read this book because there were so many positive reviews and I didn’t want to end up not liking it. Even though a lot of the plot was predictable and the story felt like a lot of other stories, it still had me in a vice grip, I could barely put the book down. One thing I thought was weird was the beginning of the book, it kind of just felt like it dropped you into it with no context, it felt like you skipped a few chapters lol. I’m not mad that this first book wasn’t a big info dump, as it is right now its 500 pages, if the author had decided to give long winded backstories it would have probably been 700 pages and stagnant in places. I see people saying the author says this is going to be 5 books which is more than enough time to get everything out. I really liked the little excerpts at the top of each chapter, it really set the tone for that chapter. I will say the characters, especially the mc, felt almost too bratty and juvenile (there’s a better description but its not coming to me 😅).

Other media with almost the same vibe (that I’ve read or seen):

How to Trian Your Dragon (obviously)

The Hunger Games

What Zodiac Academy wishes the first 2 books were

From Blood and Ash

A bit like The Cruel Prince
