Reading this classic for the first time was an interesting experience. The book was excellent although slow, so much time passes in the book that I was taken aback by the lack of urgency when time is of the essence. Also, there were so many interesting characters, such as Tom Bombadil, that were cut from the film that I enjoyed reading about. My only gripe is with the meticulous descriptions of certain events and locations, it was just a bit excessive. Other than that I truly enjoyed the book, the characters and the vast scenery that I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy.
