Hurricane Season by Fernanda Melchor

4.0

Wow. This book was bleak and haunting. Check TW! There are a lot.

This novel delves into the depths of a damned Mexican village. The story revolves around the murder of a witch and the subsequent investigation that unravels the dark secrets of the community. The narrative is filled with violence and brutality, portrayed in a raw and unfiltered manner. The writing style, characterized by run-on sentences and long blocks of text, only adds to the chaotic and heavy atmosphere of the story. (I ended up also purchasing the audiobook, to listen along with, while reading. This helped me keep my focus, if you find yourself feeling the same way.)

Believe me when I tell you, this book is not an easy read, and it will definitely take time to process the intense emotions it evokes. The violence portrayed is unsettling, and the weight of the story lingers long after you’re done reading. While it may not be for everyone, I do believe Hurricane Season is a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of the darker aspects of humanity. That being said, it’s a challenging book to rate and review.
