Despite a little lack of familiarity with the original Tim Hunter works (and a few years away from Sandman material), this was a solid reboot/spin-off that used some familiar young magic learner tropes to launch to ... well, we'll see where volume 2 goes (even with a slightly unsatisfying cliffhanger end to issue 5).
