The Blackhouse by Carole Johnstone

5.0

The Blackhouse is an intricate story with so many layers that it’s almost hard to keep track in a way that made my experience with the book a good one.
Although there are so many characters following multiple timelines the vivid writing sews it all together and brings your understanding of it all to life by the end. My favorite part of this book is how you begin to question the main characters sanity. It made me want to go back and read sections again to see if there’s any indication of falsehood.
The ending caught me by surprise. It twists and turns in so many ways. The book talks about once in a lifetime storms and that’s what I would consider this book. The intensity and creepy vibes it invokes is its own entity.
If you choose to read this book, take your time and appreciate the slow-build because everything ties in.

I loved this read! I am excited to experience other writings from Carole Johnstone
