The List by Gregg Hurwitz

5.0

"The List" is a short story that provides insight into the mind of Joey Morales. She came unbidden into Evan Smoak… Orphan X… the Nowhere Man's life. As he sees his role, he must protect Joey from the world at large. She is 16 years old and an Orphan program washout. She is also a genius hacker with attitude.

Once again, I have discovered a short story in the Orphan X series that I've read out of order. I hate when that happens. I like to follow the flow from book to book, story to story and watch the inevitable evolution that occurs. On the surface, each book and story is a standalone thriller. Each is also a cog in character development that creates the backstory. Who is Joey Morales? Who is Evan Smoak? Burning questions to which I want all the answers.

The Orphan X series is for anyone who devours adrenaline soaked thrillers and action-packed page turners. While bringing the reader smack dab into the middle of the action, there is often an emotional reaction that makes the unthinkable feel too real. In other words, the series will have you biting your nails, emitting a rare laugh, and crying tears of relief or sadness.
