This book came to me at a very peculiar time.
I had wanted to read this for a long time and I wasn’t expecting any of what I’ve read.
James is a young 18 year old boy who is struggling with depression and to find a place in this world. No one around him seems to understand what he’s going through nor he makes any attempt to try to speak about his feelings, so the reader is caught in this deep miscommunication between the protagonist and the other characters. However this seems to be different when it comes to the bond he shares with his grandmother, who is, in fact, the only person whose company he enjoys.
James finds it hard to relate to other people and to interact with them, especially kids his own age. This leads him to behave in dangerous ways, hurting the people around him and isolating himself most of the time and putting him in a place where he doesn’t feel fit for the world he lives in.
The moments he spends with his grandmother are the most heartwarming of the whole story, their conversations are so inspiring and reflective.
In the end, James realises he’s still too young to know what he’s going to need in the future and what not.
