Well it was definitely an interesting plot device. I was fascinated for most of the book, though it dragged a bit in the last portion. And I'll be honest, I didn't really understand the mechanics of it. Maybe someone has a primer out there I can read. I wish there was more about what kind of world this existed in, but I can see why the story was made without that. It would have been 4 or 5 stars, but the fat hate was so jarring that I actively hated the book during those chapters, plus it had the trope of a calculating woman murderer and LADIES ARE VERY UNLIKELY TO MURDER PEOPLE. Anyway, worth a read but a few dings along the way.
