Children of the Wolf by Jane Yolen
sad
slow-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? A mix
- Flaws of characters a main focus? No
3.0
Well-written, as all Yolen's books are. But I am bothered by her decision to see it as a story about Mohandas's personal growth, rather than the tragedy of the sisters. The story is sad, of course, but the overall feeling from the book is one of "well, this happened, it's too bad but look, isn't it great that the main character had such a neat experience?" Which ignores the horrific experience the sisters endured.
Graphic: Bullying, Kidnapping, and Child abuse
Moderate: Bullying and Colonisation
Minor: Animal death
