A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

3.0

This feels like it should be Jamie's story but it is very much Landon's. He is fairly unlikable to start but his development is a real lump-in-the-throat sort.

Overall it gave me feels but there wasn't really a plot and I don't feel like we got to know Jamie well enough, but as I say this wasn't really her story. The sole focus was the relationship but even that was done over a few events, much of this book was Landon inner monologuing. There seemed to be pages given to setting and yet little afforded to plot points.

I would also have liked more context. What did Landon want to do after college? Even if he hadn't admitted it to Jamie, I felt it would have given him some more substance. Did he achieve anything after 1959? How was his relationship with Jamie's father?

I enjoyed it but I'd have liked more of it to really delve into these finer points and really ramp up the connection between Jamie and Landon and the emotional ending.
