Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty, Volume 4 by Megumi Morino

4.0

this is reminding me of Every Day by David Levithan except that in this story, there are four spirits which inhabit only one vessel. it's strange for a romance novel and i think can see why not a lot of people would like this series. it's tinged with just the right amount of horror/supernatural but i'm loving everything about this. in comparison with Every Day, from what i remember, the characters in here have far more depth and the guy mc is extremely likeable and agreeable. i don't think i've read a book so far this year in which a guy protagonist really moved me. Tetsu's deeply held concern and care for his family and his pragmatic way of showing up for them was something i can certainly relate to as a capricorn. his ability to express his feelings and be vulnerable was really admirable.

other than the romance aspect, how the author handled the topic of family issues, death and the regrets and grief that comes with it in a delicate way really stood out for me. it was a completely satisfying read despite the brief sadness i felt for what the characters went through.
