Murder in the Family is a fictional combination of true crime and reality tv where a cast of experts reexamines a cold case - the murder of the director’s stepfather 20 years ago. The number of twists and turns that require a suspension of belief is a little staggering but it was an entertaining and enjoyable escapist read. My favourite aspect was the mixed media nature of the storytelling - newspaper clippings, text messages, call sheets, cvs,and online discussions by viewers of the show. I listened on audio and this had its pros (a great full cast narration where the style of speech became a key component of the character’s personalities) and cons (not all multi media aspects worked well on audio and the repetitive aspects grated more than I think they would have in print).
