Happier at Home: Kiss More, Jump More, Abandon a Project, Read Samuel Johnson, and My Other Experiments in the Practice of Everyday Life by Gretchen Rubin
3.0
I wanted to like this more than I did. I met the author at a book signing and found her to be very charming and down to earth. She does not appear to be overly impressed with herself, nor does she exude elitism. With that being said, I often found myself wondering how very different our lives are. I am clearly not in the same position as she is, but then again, she states throughout her books about recognizing that her circumstances are different from others'.
I guess what bothered me was that much of what she wrote about was covered in her first book, which I absolutely loved, and recently re-read before reading this one. So I was a bit disappointed in that. I do think her core beliefs related to happiness can be transferred to others' circumstances, however not all of us have the means to make some of those things happen. For example, I don't have the money to take my older son on an adventure every week. I barely have enough to do it once a month.
Overall, I enjoy the topic and her suggestions, but I wish it were a little more different than the first project. I am looking forward to her next book, which seems very interesting.
