Confessions of a Christmasholic by Joss Wood

2.0

This was a hard one for me to review.

I was not really invested or interested in this story. Sutton, Gus, the twins, I did not care for. A quarter of the way in and nothing had really happened, except for the rehashing of the same internal struggles.

I liked the angle of- she hates Christmas and he loves Christmas, but this was absolutely not the case?
Plus a lot of the decisions made by Sutton (for instance getting very drunk while breaking into someone’s house to squat) honestly put me off so bad, that it was hard to get into things. My cold cold heart could not be heated up anymore, to go off on the book’s blurb.

While the story is set in England, I could tell the author was not from there (nor am I, by the way). For instance, a British dad would not say kindergarten, he would say preschool. And there were a few more instances that were just a bit odd. Some where I just could not put my finger on things exactly, but I could tell there was a disconnect.

2.5 stars rounded down with a shoutout to the cute cover.

I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.
