Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman

I read this book all in one sitting. Not because I intended to, but because of the way it was written. I didn’t know what to make of it at the beginning, the sections feel intentionally disjointed and nonsensical. But as one reads further, you start to see connections between the two realities and see how they coalesce into one truth.
The story was really poignant, and ultimately what makes this book that much more impactful to me is that it’s based on the reality of the author’s friend and son. The illustrations in the book by the author‘s son seemingly look like random lines, nonsense and hurried marks. But in the context of the story themselves, they began to make sense and look like some thing understandable. I think the inclusion of these drawings really helped make the delusions of the character more accessible to the reader. It showcased how what may look like chaos to one person, can be order to another if they have the right perspective. Definitely worth a read!
