What a wild ride. Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Harley is that type of protagonist that I love to yell at while I'm reading in that perfect horror fan way. The red flags, girl, they are a-waving. That alone would make it a fun read, well worth the afternoon it took to read it. But the statues, the art created during a secret process by Harley's prankster boyfriend, are the true stars of this show. Something in my weird little heart connected with those statues and I just fell in love with them. They were spooky and feisty and fascinating.
This was my first read from Jeremy Ray, but it won't be my last.
When I'm reading, I don't usually need them, but Ray is very upfront about the trigger warnings for this novella, as well as how his own trauma informed and shaped it. That honesty and vulnerability was incredibly appreciated.
