African Cinema: Politics and Culture by Manthia Diawara

4.0

a good, well-researched overview of african cinema through 1989 (when the book was finished i think). the writing is incredibly clear and diawara is able to succinctly summarize information from postcolonial theory to film production with an amazing clarity not found in many academics. i'll admit my eyes glazed over a bit when he gets into talking about distribution and some of the more technical economic aspects, but that's a me thing.
