Delta Wedding by Eudora Welty

3.0

Delta Wedding is not a story as much as it is a portrait of a self-important family composed of mostly self-absorbed individuals. That is to say, there's not really much of a plot, but Welty does a fine job exploring the tensions in this sort of old, landed family, between individuals as well as between the past and the present. I thought it was cool that several characters were presented as complex individuals, with thoughts with which the reader could sympathize as well as attitudes that the reader could despise.

I can understand why a person would not like this mostly plotless book, but I love exposition/world-building so I was okay with it not having much plot. The world that was built, however, was somewhat uncomfortable (especially from a 21st century perspective) and perhaps uninteresting, so that's another thing.
