Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb
3.0
“Read” this as an audiobook.
I really admire Hobb’s world construction. It’s obviously detailed and intricate and it’s a feat to be proud of. That said, it just wasn’t quite for me.
The details bogged me down a bit, and I struggled to keep track of the details that became important later in the story. While I grasped the overall arc well enough, I feel that I missed out on the minor developments because I was so overwhelmed with information and content.
HOWEVER, there is still a lot to love in this book. Fitz is just generally likable because he’s fallible and imperfect. His animal companions made him all the more endearing in my eyes. Galen is so loathsome that I credit Hobb’s capacity to inspire hate I didn’t even know I had in me. Burrich and Chade are complex and unique. Generally speaking, the characters here are what made the story for me above everything else.
Side note: NOSY! IS! THE! BEST!
