The Quality of Silence by Rosamund Lupton

4.0

Taut thrillers set in remote locations threatened by extreme weather are my jam, so I was all in for THE QUALITY OF SILENCE. The novel has a simple premise, but it's a compelling one that makes for a tense, exciting story. While the plot is pretty straightforward without any huge surprises, it definitely kept me turning pages. Still, this is more of a character-driven tale. Yasmin and Ruby are both likable because of their bravery, determination, and compassion. It's easy to root for their success, both in their search for Matt and in their mother/daughter relationship, as they progress on their wild journey across northern Alaska. I was so invested in their plight, in fact, that I read this book in a day, even staying up late to finish. It's the first one I've read by Lupton, but it won't be the last. As a matter of fact, I ordered THREE DAYS yesterday. I can't wait to dig into another nail biter from Lupton!
