The Wrong Billionaire's Bed by Jessica Clare

3.0

In the third book of the series we have Ms Goody Two Shoes Audrey Petty has heroine and super playboy Reese Durham, an almost billionaire. We first met Audrey in the first book as Logan's always efficient and prim assistant. Her sister is famous singer Daphne Petty and at the end of the second nook she's reached rock bottom with her drug abuse. Audrey has decided to help Daphne by bringing her to their childhood friend Cade's lodge in the woods. Audrey since childhood has always harbored a crush and love for Cade but has never done anything about it. She's decided that hopefully by spending alone time with him in the lodge she'll be able to show her affections and finally win him over. But she doesn't count on walking in on Reese naked with a strange blonde woman in the hot tub.

Reese can't really recall Audrey from their past meetings since she's not his type both physically and personality wise. But he loves a challenge and he sees one in her as she rebuffs his every advance. He decides to stay at the cabin and try to needle his way into her bed. He likes seeing how she's so prim and uptight yet his teasing brings out a whole other side to her. He initiates a dare that takes them to a whole other level of steamy no strings attached sex.

I really enjoyed the first book of the series I thought it was fun and flirty. Unfortunately I wasn't really into this one. I think it was the set up. For most of the book Audrey holds the love torch for Cade. She hero worships and comments how right and perfect he is. And after a while it's repetitive. She goes from being the very responsible twin to being this wildcat sexpot. She decides to use Reese for sex while they are vacationing together since he's a playboy and won't want a commitment. But this is never spoken about. Neither of them explicitly say they'll have a no strings attached deal for the duration of their stay. And while Reese knows Audrey's feelings for Cade he still goes there because he'll get some. At what point did Reese fall for her? I think there was so much Cade loving that it killed the mood for me.

And Daphne. She was a big part of the story yet she was put on the back burner. The whole reason for the vacation was so that she could detox and we get a few scenes of that. But after a while Audrey leaves a lot of the care taking to Cade while she's with Reese. And while she does feel guilty about it, but then it's suddenly becomes about Reese. In a way I think it would of been better had the plot not centered around Daphne. She's sort of used as a plot device but it doesn't go anywhere. Audrey is supposed to transform from a girl who thought she was in love with someone else, molded herself to what she thought he would like, but found herself limited until she met Reese. And that sort of happened.

I don't know. Unlike the first book where the plot moved along and progressed to the climax this one was a bit boring and without a deeper plot. I find it strange too that Audrey is the one who ties the Petty sisters to all the billionaires yet they hardly know one another. In the first book Bronte is new to the billionaires so she doesn't know anything personal but I find it odd that in all the years Audrey has known Cade she and her sisters rarely interacted with the billionaires.

So this one was a dud in my book. The sex scenes were steamy as usual and really hot but the lack of a plot and repetitive Cade worship was too much.

SpoilerA bit irksome was that after Reese and Audrey have unprotected sex she says she'll go on the pill. Both of them clearly do not want a child yet so why didn't the author write in that she'll take the morning after pill? Audrey does end up pregnant after not taking the pill on time. I don't know a couple even though declarations are made after 4 months already having a child? Yeah I don't know about that.

I am looking forward to the next book as the heroine is a brand new character. I think for some reason having a brand new character will be better to the story.

So far my preference for the books in the series: 1) stranded with a billionaire 2) beauty and the billionaire and 3) the wrong billionaire's bed
