i love this book so much, it's just oh my god. it's one of my favourite books so far. it's simple, it's charming, it'll make you cry, it'll make you laugh. this book has some of the best family dynamics i've ever read. i love seeing how Ari's relationship with his dad evolved. it does take place in the 1980-s so the Vietnamese war is a reoccurring theme. it also has a pretty slow burn on Ari's side.
this book also encapsulates being a teenager absolutely perfectly. i love how it touches on Ari and Dante's sexual and racial identity. the characters are so loveable too, and aaah i love this book with my whole heart. it's a modern classic!!
