The Becoming by Jeanne C. Stein

4.0

I think I enjoyed this reading more than the first time. Although Anna swings from being stupidly independent to overly dependant, (explained later int he book), she's a likable character overall.

I particularly appreciated how, as a newbie, so many people keep Anna in the dark, and manipulate her. That rings true in a dark supernatural culture. There are lots of little elements that add verisimilitude... like when her ex-football partner gets angry when she won't let him help her. Maybe it just that I've been reading so many self-published books lately, but it's refreshing to see an author take care with her craft.
