Van Helsing Rising by Lacey Carter Andersen, Helen Scott
5.0
Van Helsing Rising the fast-paced, steamy, and hard to put down paranormal romance collaboration between Helen Scott and Lacey Carter Andersen. This reverse harem novel is so well done and I could not put it down at all! If you like snarky females, kick butt guys, and bad guys who just don’t give up, then this is a good book for you to pick up!
Van Helsing Rising piqued my interest with the title in more ways than one. Van Helsing because of the vampire killer (I really don’t like him lol) and then I wanted to see how the authors would work in the motorcycle club angle. Let me just say this…I was NOT disappointed. This book is so well done despite the few spots that rubbed me the wrong way. LOL! Is it wrong that I get annoyed that the MC has all but culled all the vampires? Just rankled my proverbial fur so to speak. LOL!
I love how this book starts out though. It really sets the stage with an air of mercenaries and mystery. I appreciate how the authors give us each of the guys and the main female character, Dani with each chapter. Piece by piece the story comes together with the beginning setting a decent foundation moving forward. They find and rescue Dani, but have no idea what she or the other “survivors” have been through at the facility that they just took down. My eyes absolutely went huge during a couple of scenes with the “survivors.”
The overall storyline is engaging from beginning to end. I will admit that I didn’t like Dani’s attitude in some scenes, because I felt that she was being tight-lipped for dumb reasons. Trust me when I say…I wasn’t disappointed when her reasons come out…they were dumb. LOL! I was expecting something a bit more…major, but it’s just bad choices after another. Of course, her wanting to get mouthy with the Prez, who literally comes off as a “no nonsense” kinda guy…you gotta question if she has a death wish. She always says she doesn’t care about living, but when an opportunity to run presents itself…she sure does try to make an escape. She’s a troublemaker, but I still like her. LOL!
The steamy scenes in this book are…yum! I think that the guys are a bit soft on her though. I like it when they take her hand in order to send a message not just to her, but to others around. I just felt that they needed to do it a bit more because they should know that they are being watched. I have to admit as well, that in the beginning the guys go from “secrets will get us killed” to “let’s keep this and that and that a secret.” What happened guys? Well…we all know what happened. A “sweet butt” got under their skin. (wink)
This book has some really good twists and moments throughout. The way these two authors literally have me on the edge of my seat with questions!!! I’m just like…what happens next?! What happens next?! What happens next?! Yes, I’m saying that three times, because there are three different situations I want to know…what happens next?! Don’t leave me here wondering!!! Tell me! LOL! Trust me…you’ll feel the same way when you read this book.
I am deciding to rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off half a star for Dani’s over done attitude. I don’t mind snarky characters, but when you’re running your mouth JUST to be running you mouth, to have an attitude for no reason and/or cause trouble…I’m going to have a bit of an issue with you.
