Seasons of the Storm by Elle Cosimano
3.0
3.5/5
I have too many thoughts on this.
First of all, the characters. I think we don’t know enough about them, or at least not quick enough. Until the third prt, I didn’t like any of them except Amber. I ended up loving Fleur and Amber and liking Jack, but I think the characters aren’t deep enough. They’re immortal and all the trauma they have is their death before they became seasons ? Sorry but no... I hope the second book will make me love them !
Now, the world. I like it a lot, it’s pretty safe. There’s not much to it really, it’s more like adding a kind of magic thing into our world. No critique here.
Then, the plot. Honestly idk what the hell is going on. The Lyon thing was pretty weird. I would have preferred if he was a traitor and set them up but the sacrifice Jack makes at the end is also a good turn, I liked that. A bit all over the place in my opinion.
Lastly, but most importantly, the magic. As soon as I heard what the book was about, I was so excited. I wanted to love it and learn all the magic there was to discover. But during the whole book, I wanted more. I wanted something unexpected. If the “surviving alone” thing was hidden from them, why not some kind of dark, powerful magic ? Like they control their seasons and stuff but everything is controlled. The storm ? They knew it was possible. It didn’t just happen. I don’t know, I just needed more magic.
This book is neither plot nor character driven, which made me have a love-hate relationship with it. I wanted to throw it across the room and rip it apart as much as I wanted to finish it right away.
