I don't read many horror books, except for Stephen King's works, but I really enjoy a story about an out of control infection. Although this book had a lot of gore, it was mostly sci-fi in nature, which I can handle. The tension in the scenes was so palpable that I would literally tense up and make faces while reading. Overall, I loved it. The alternating timeline between the court proceedings and the island added to the mysterious atmosphere, but there was one storyline,
Shelley's
, that I didn't enjoy. I felt it was unnecessary and the story already had enough tension without his
psychopathic
plotline. Personally, I thought it weakened the whole story. I even skipped a chapter because of the content and it has zero impact on the overall story. But, maybe I'm just more of a sci-fi nerd!
