The Winter Guest by W.C. Ryan

4.0

A well-plotted story, with believable characters, and all the atmosphere you’d expect for a story set in the West coast of Ireland in winter (ie lots of mist and drizzle!). It’s set in 1921, at the height of the IRA struggle for independence from Britain, with flashbacks to the First World War. I don’t know how historically accurate it is, but it seems convincing enough for me to believe that Ryan has based it on some decent research into the historic context.
