The Tiger's Wife by Téa Obreht

3.0

I was so looking forward to reading this book because of all the wonderful reviews. However, so far I've been disappointed. Yes, the author writes lovely prose and excels at providing specific descriptive phrases that draw the reader into the world of the characters.....but after 120 pages, I'm just not finding the story or characters compelling as a whole. I read one review that mentioned that this book seemed like a bunch of excellent stories loosely tied together and I agree. So far I find the stories told by the grandfather to be engaging, but when we get back to the grandaughter, I really don't care about where she is and what she is doing. Also, I'm finding that the dialog is a bit flat compared to the rest of the writing.

I'm not sure if I'm going to continue with it...I feel like I should, but maybe I'm stuck in fluffy book land after so many mommy-track mysteries! Well it's been a week and I just decided to give up on finishing this book.
