The hype for Beach Read was a lot. I had high expectations. And I swear, every single expectation I had was exceeded by a mile. I truly loved this book. It's romantic, beautiful, normal, emotional, and sweet. I loved it.
Emily Henry has some of the best lines I've ever read. She combines romance with seemingly mundane normal life and escapism, and it's simply stunning. I was laughing, emo, and obsessed with the world she was spinning around me. It was accessible and easy to read, while also being deep and exploratory. I loved it.
These CHARACTERS!!! AHHHH!!! They seem like such cookie-cutter hero and heroines from the outside, but they are so dynamic and amazing once you get to know them. January, our main girl, is dealing with the tragic loss of her father, the discovery of his deepest secrets, and the loss of a long-term relationship, all while attempting to keep her career afloat. Gus seems like just a grump, but he has insecurities and secrets too. The two of them learning how to accept imperfection in a relationship and in one another was so incredible. They are such normal characters. I loved them.
Beach Read explores grief, loss, secrets, the human experience, falling in love, starting over, and almost everything in between. What started off as a romcom turned into an exploration of a woman's life with a romance twisted into it. I loved it.
In conclusion, I LOVED THIS BOOK. It was so good. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a pulse. Thank you and good night.
