A Girl Named Misty: The True Story of Misty Copeland by Kelly Starling Lyons

hopeful inspiring

4.0

This elementary to middle-grade biography of the trials and triumphs of ballerina Misty Copeland is an interesting and beautifully illustrated book. In addition to showing the hard work and difficulties that any dancer might face, it does not shy away from referencing the additional challenges she faced in being a late learner, a Black woman, and woman with curves. A wonderful true-life story not only for hopeful dancers but for any child dreaming to enter a field where there are few faces like their own.

Suitable for ages 7 - 10.
