The Promise of Provence by Patricia Sands

3.0

I didn't know a lot about this novel when I purchased it, but I was tempted to read it because one of my Goodreads friends had it on her list and because anything with 'Provence' in it always sounds interesting.

Basically, it's about a 50-something woman whose husband abruptly asks for a divorce. On the urging of friends, she takes a solo trip to France and, of course, falls in the love with it while regaining her confidence.

It took about 100 pages before she ever made it to France and the story before then was just a bit tedious. In my opinion, this book could have used some more editing because I found it a little repetitive and wordy. While the author was very descriptive of all the senses, it was just too much. I found myself speed-reading through the last hundred pages because I was ready for the story to end.
