I'm gonna be honest and say, I don't know think my review of this comic can do it justice. It's such a poignant story that touches on elements of immigration and family and self that I don't have the experience or skills to describe in a way that this comic deserves. It's the kind of story that lingers in your mind long after you've read it, feeling at once like something painfully familiar and something new, much like the experience the protagonist goes through. I think this feeling is also heightened by the great use of second person narration.

It's such a beautiful comic, too-- the loose, sketchy coloring adds movement to the pages and characters, and the colors themselves lend an antsy, moody feeling that fits the story perfectly. I also enjoyed the way Niv Sekar illustrates the people and the fox, too-- recognizable forms, while drawn in a stylized way that feels very much alive. Loved this!

Unfortunately, ShortBox (the publisher of this comic) is now retired** by the time most of you'll be reading this issue of More Comics Please!, but you can take a look at Niv Sekar's comics page on her website for other works of hers to check out and keep an eye there to see if she ever self-publishes Your Mother's Fox!
