I am writing this review 7 months after reading - I still think about this book at least once a week. I think about Robin and I think about the other first years and I think about how Rebecca Kuang wrote a dark academia fantasy that not only entertains with a unique and clever magic system but also very precisely educates about colonialism, white supremacy, and the harms of white guilt and prejudice upon minorities.
I also think about the nickname Birdie and I CRY
