The Man Who Lived Underground by Richard Wright

5.0

I feel like I have been led astray by Ralph Ellison, with his contentious relationship to Wright; I've always been in the Ellison camp, but this surreal journey, probably the closest thing that Wright wrote to Invisible Man, albeit at a much more hurried pace, is astounding. And it was unpublished for so long! I didn't want to buy into the publishing hype over it, but let this be a sign to you that you too should pick up this work, and don't skip the essay attached; it's an invaluable documentation of Wright's process.
