The Governess Game by Tessa Dare

5.0

Okay, so, this woman is magical.

How can I be so freaking obsessed with everything she writes?! She always manages to make me laugh and I close her books feeling so happy and lighthearted

The heroines are always so badass, strong, brave, vulnerable... The heroes always exactly what I wish I could find in real life (no such luck yet, unsurprisingly, but a girl gotta dream). The love is so believable and sweet, it warms my heart.

I think this was my favorite one yet (or at least on the top 5), for two beautiful, amazing reasons: Sam and Daisy! I want-no, I need their story. The girls want to be pirates, for fuck's sake. I'm in love. They're so strong-willed and stubborn, it's impossible not to be proud. And Alex's feminist methods of teaching made the whole book for me. I was overjoyed every damn time they appeared.

I also loved that Alex never even considered giving up on her independence - and Chase, of course, cause he's a decent man, never suggested she should. He was 100% supportive and I loved it. Actually, there was something that stayed with me, so I need to put here:

"The irony of a husband dictating how his wife expressed her independence seemed utterly lost on him. Nevertheless, Alex let it pass without comment. There would be a more important naming conversation in the coming months, and she had to choose her battles. "

THIS! I laughed so hard, and it feels so important. Like, Chase did overstep, and Alex noticed it, even if she did decide to let it go. I don't know why this stuck with me, but whatever, it did.

I only wished there were more bonding moments for Chase and the girls. I understand why there weren't (the poor bastard was so scared of love he pretty much sprinted away from it), but it would've been nice.

Oh, and I just need to comment on the dedication!

"For my children, the Darelings, because apparently I have a trend with this series—dedicating books to people I hope will never read them"

And

"Bonus: I’ve now embarrassed you in front of thousands of strangers. Mom's achievement unlocked!"

Honestly, I can't think of a better way to start this book. Best dedication ever, seriously.

I can't wait for the next one in this series! I'm hoping it'll be Penny's story, I'm so hyped! By the way, I need to say one more time how much I love their little group of awesomeness. Yay!!

PS: I need to take a break from Tessa Dare, I'm running out of books from her and I need a supply for emergencies... Dammit.
