City of Dragons by Robin Hobb

5.0

The extra perspectives we get in this book make it more enjoyable than the first two. The political ramifications also add back in some classic Hobb tension that was somewhat lacking before. Can't wait to finish the final volume. Why do people seem to dislike this quartet so much? There are many characters here I like very much, strong development among them, and Hobb has not taken the easy or simple way out of some situations. I don't find Thymara annoying as some reviewers do - a fact that makes me question their empathy for a woman coming of age and the agency and dignity she deserves to have, yet society and men and boys seem determined to deny her. Sedrick's arc has been Malta-esque, and Leftrin is great. The addition of the Khuprus family back into the mix, some Duke of Chalced chapters......what's not to like?
