I enjoyed the Newsflesh trilogy quite a bit, but this book didn't really do it for me. A lot of the things that people who disliked the Newsflesh books pointed out as weaknesses actually worked as strengths for me, in a contextually-specific sort of ju jitsu that didn't happen here, so now I think I know how the people who hated those books and howled whenever one showed up on the Hugo ballot felt.

I pretty much never read with an eye to predicting what's going to happen next—afterwards, sure, I'll happily take it apart, but along the way I'm aiming for being swept up in the story, which is why I also strongly prefer wholly unspoiled readings—so when I say that a plot point is telegraphed exactly halfway through the book and then put aside until the very end of the book in a way that completely disrupted my reading, I want it to be clear that this is genuinely incredibly blatant.
